Entrepreneurs to Conserve Osa
Projects in Progress: Sustaining Marine Conservation through Entrepreneurship
The Osa Peninsula, a biodiversity hotspot located on the South Pacific Coast of Costa Rica, embraces a diversity of marine and terrestrial ecosystems and harbors 3% of the world’s species. However, Osa’s resources are critically threatened by factors such as increased development, unsustainable and illegal fishing practices, and a severe lack of conservation awareness.
Amigos has teamed up with the MarViva Foundation and local Osa groups to develop a project entitled Sustaining Marine Conservation through Entrepreneurship. The project focuses on engaging Osa-based entrepreneurs, like Eduviges Pumares (pictured), through a training program designed to help them develop and establish economically and environmentally sustainable businesses to improve conservation efforts and their standards of living. Visit our Programs section for more information.
