Saving Sea Turtles
Project Profile - Partnering to save the Leatherback Sea Turtles
Amigos is partnering with Ecology Project International (EPI) to develop a project aimed at protecting green and endangered leatherback sea turtles and their nesting sites. The project will focus on the communities of Matina, Bataan, Limón and Siquirres on Costa Rica’s Caribbean coast.
With Amigos’ support, EPI will work with international students, volunteers, and local citizens to research, monitor, and protect turtles and their nesting sites, attempting to avoid such practices as turtle killing, habitat destruction, and egg theft. In addition, the project will engage local communities through conservation awareness seminars that can then be replicated in coastal communities throughout the country.
