Biodiversity Preservation through the Consolidation of Biological Corridors

Costa Rica possesses one of the world’s richest concentrations of biodiversity, but its biological resources are threatened. Though a network of protected areas has been successfully in place over the last decades, the integrity of forests cannot be guaranteed. It is now widely recognized that the conservation of national parks and biological reserves cannot be achieved if connectivity between them does not exist. Therefore, a series of biological corridors have been implemented or recommended.

The CRUSA Foundation, Thrifty Car Rental, FUNDECOR, and Amigos of Costa Rica have teamed up for the Biodiversity Preservation through the Consolidation of Biological Corridors project. This initiative aims to benefit the long-term conservation of biodiversity by building and integrating a network of protected areas and their buffer zones linked by biological corridors. The primary vehicle for achieving an effective corridor network is through an environmental service payments program, which offers incentives to encourage landowner participation and provides technical support on sustainable land use options.

The CRUSA Foundation and Thrifty recently signed a landmark agreement that will provide an estimated $600,000 over five years to support the consolidation of biological corridors. The car rental company encourages its clients in Costa Rica to voluntarily contribute one US dollar for every contract, while CRUSA matches every donation and FUNDECOR executes the project.

Please consider providing much-needed support to this project by making an express donation and selecting Biodiversity Preservation through the Consolidation of Biological Corridors from the drop-down menu.
