Amigos of Costa Rica works with the CRUSA Foundation to support projects in our three areas of interest: Education, Environment, and Science and Technology. We collaborate with our operating partners in Costa Rica to design and develop high-impact projects in each of our funding areas, and Amigos leads efforts to partner with U.S.-based individuals, foundations, and corporations to bring additional resources to CRUSA-approved projects. Visit our Interactive Map to search projects by region or read more about our priority areas below:
Environment
In the area of Environment, CRUSA/Amigos strives to create a comprehensive approach to conserving areas and ecosystems of biological importance. To ensure the sustainable use of water resources and their associated ecosystems, we have focused our efforts on the Tempisque River Basin in Guanacaste, the Osa Peninsula, the Environmental Forum, and the National Water Agenda, among others. The majority of CRUSA/Amigos’ support in this area goes to projects in Osa that help communities relying on environmentally destructive practices for their livelihoods to identify sustainable alternative sources of income, protecting biodiversity and conserving local ecosystems. Education
In the area of Education, CRUSA/Amigos works with our partners to support projects aimed at developing creativity, leadership, and critical thinking. We focus on promoting the use of information and digital technologies to enhance learning processes and pursuing innovations in English education. We also support training initiatives that help build new businesses, strengthening workforce development and furthering entrepreneurial activities. Science and Technology
In the area of Science and Technology, CRUSA/Amigos works with our partner institutions to promote biotechnology as a tool for improving people’s quality of life. We also promote the consolidation of international programs in scientific research to help scientists explore Costa Rica’s tropical biodiversity and understand global warming, find new applications for plants, and discover new species.
