About
Asociación de Voluntarios Costa Rica Indígena works alongside Indigenous communities to strengthen wellbeing, autonomy, and sustainable development. Established in 2017, the organization responds to priorities identified by the communities themselves, serving as a bridge between local initiatives and volunteers who help bring them to life. Its work spans education, health, human rights, cultural preservation, and sustainable livelihoods, with a community-led approach that respects local knowledge and empowers Indigenous people to shape the projects that directly affect their territories and futures.

Education
Improves school infrastructure and provides supply kits to Indigenous students in remote communities, helping reduce school dropout.
Community Health
Mobilizes medical, dental, and veterinary professionals to provide essential services in hard-to-reach Indigenous territories.
Indigenous Women’s Initiatives
Supports women-led organizations advancing cultural preservation, food security, sustainable livelihoods, and leadership.
Current Need
Expanding community-led initiatives will help more Indigenous families access education, health services, and opportunities for sustainable development. Current priorities include providing school supplies to 700+ students, completing infrastructure improvements at Las Delicias de Cabagra School, supporting Ditsä +8, which brings together women from Costa Rica’s eight Indigenous peoples, and mobilizing 100+ volunteers. Donations, volunteers, and corporate partnerships can help reduce school dropout and strengthen Indigenous women’s leadership while supporting projects defined by the communities themselves.
Growing Stronger Every Year
We’re proud to participate in Amigos of Costa Rica’s Transparency Badge System, which evaluates organizations across three key areas: financial stewardship, governance, and community impact.
Organizations are recognized at four levels of growth: Seed, Sprout, Sapling, and Tree, helping donors better understand each organization’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement.
The badges displayed below reflect our current achievements and our ongoing commitment to strengthening our organization and maximizing our impact.
