Making the ocean accessible to everyone.

About

ADESURFA is Costa Rica’s Adaptive Surfing Association, dedicated to creating opportunities for people with disabilities to experience the transformative power of the ocean. Built by and for individuals with disabilities, their families, and supporters, the organization promotes inclusion, wellbeing, empowerment, and personal growth through adaptive surfing. Through recreational and competitive programs, ADESURFA helps participants build confidence, develop skills, and become part of a supportive community. By making the ocean more accessible, the organization is breaking barriers and proving that surfing can be a space of freedom, connection, and achievement for all.

Programs

Recreational Surfing

Providing adaptive surfing experiences through Surf Camps that bring together participants, families, instructors, and volunteers.

Competitive Surfing

Supporting high-performance para-surfers in their athletic development and participation in national and international competitions.

Current Need

ADESURFA is working to expand access to adaptive surfing opportunities for people with disabilities across Costa Rica. In 2026, the organization plans to host five Surf Camps, provide technical training for competitive para-surfers, support participation in national and international events, and send a team of 12 athletes to the ISA World Para Surfing Championship. Continued support will also help train instructors and volunteers, ensuring more people can safely experience the benefits of adaptive surfing and the transformative power of the ocean.

Growing Stronger Every Year

We’re proud to participate in Amigos of Costa Rica’s Transparency Badge System, which evaluates organizations across three key areas: financial stewardship, governance, and community impact.

Organizations are recognized at four levels of growth: Seed, Sprout, Sapling, and Tree, helping donors better understand each organization’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement.

The badges displayed below reflect our current achievements and our ongoing commitment to strengthening our organization and maximizing our impact.
