About
Monteverde Community Fund for Sustainable Development (FCM) strengthens local organizations working to build a more sustainable and resilient Monteverde. Since 2012, the Fund has connected community and traveler philanthropy with the knowledge, talent, and commitment of local leaders addressing the region’s social, economic, and environmental challenges. Through grants, capacity building, and opportunities for collaboration and shared learning, FCM helps grassroots initiatives grow their impact while channeling resources toward locally driven solutions that support people, communities, and ecosystems.

Current Need
Strengthening Monteverde’s local organizations requires a sustainable and diverse ecosystem of support. FCM aims to expand its operational capacity, improve fundraising opportunities for both the Fund and its Affiliated Groups, and develop new social investment mechanisms that respond to the region’s evolving challenges. Donations, volunteer time, partnerships, and connections to new supporters can help more locally led initiatives access the resources and skills they need to create lasting impact.
Growing Stronger Every Year
We’re proud to participate in Amigos of Costa Rica’s Transparency Badge System, which evaluates organizations across three key areas: financial stewardship, governance, and community impact.
Organizations are recognized at four levels of growth: Seed, Sprout, Sapling, and Tree, helping donors better understand each organization’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement.
