About

Guardians of Nature is transforming education by placing nature at the center of learning. Through innovative programs, teacher training, curriculum enrichment, and ecosystem restoration initiatives, the organization helps schools become spaces where students develop a deeper connection with the environment while building the skills needed to address global challenges. Using Costa Rica’s education system as a living laboratory for innovation, Guardians of Nature empowers educators and students to take meaningful action for biodiversity, climate resilience, and community wellbeing. Its work creates scalable models that inspire environmental stewardship both locally and globally.

Current Need

Building on its success in transforming environmental education, Guardians of Nature is expanding innovative school-based programs to new regions across Costa Rica, including Heredia, San José, Occidente, Coto, and Guanacaste. Support will help train more educators, increase student participation, strengthen biodiversity and climate action projects, and continue developing model schools where learning happens in harmony with nature. These efforts will create lasting educational and environmental impact while equipping future generations to become leaders in sustainability and conservation.

Growing Stronger Every Year

We’re proud to participate in Amigos of Costa Rica’s Transparency Badge System, which evaluates organizations across three key areas: financial stewardship, governance, and community impact.

Organizations are recognized at four levels of growth: Seed, Sprout, Sapling, and Tree, helping donors better understand each organization’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement.
