Empowering women through education and opportunity.

About

Asociación Hogar y Cultura, through its Surí Educational Project, empowers girls and women from Pavas and surrounding communities to become agents of positive change in their families and communities. Since 1964, Surí has used education as a pathway to break cycles of poverty and expand opportunities for women facing social vulnerability. Through its Technical High School and Training Center, the organization combines scholarships, secondary education, technical and professional training, internships, and entrepreneurship support to strengthen personal development and create pathways to employment and economic independence.

Programs

Technical High School

Provides scholarship-supported secondary and technical education, including internships that prepare students for employment or university.

Women’s Training Center

Offers technical and professional programs in areas such as accounting, culinary arts, textiles, and other employment-oriented skills.

Transformarte Social Incubator

Supports women in developing formal entrepreneurial initiatives and sustainable social businesses as a pathway to economic independence.

Current Need

Creating stronger pathways from education to economic independence is a central priority for Surí. The organization aims to graduate 25 Technical High School students each year with opportunities for employment or university, welcome 20 women per term into the Transformarte Social Incubator, and reduce illiteracy through its ongoing Open Education Program. Donations to the scholarship fund, volunteers supporting adult women’s education, and corporate partnerships providing internships can help more girls and women build skills, access employment, and transform their futures.

Growing Stronger Every Year

We’re proud to participate in Amigos of Costa Rica’s Transparency Badge System, which evaluates organizations across three key areas: financial stewardship, governance, and community impact.

Organizations are recognized at four levels of growth: Seed, Sprout, Sapling, and Tree, helping donors better understand each organization’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement.

The badges displayed below reflect our current achievements and our ongoing commitment to strengthening our organization and maximizing our impact.
