About

Nicoya Peninsula Waterkeeper is a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting water resources and reducing pollution through environmental action, education, and community engagement. Since 2012, the organization has worked on projects related to water quality monitoring, wastewater management, solid waste recovery, and environmental awareness. Today, its primary focus is beach cleanup and waste prevention, helping keep plastics and other pollutants out of the ocean while promoting responsible waste management and circular economy practices. Recovering waste from coastal ecosystems while educating children, youth, and community members about responsible waste management and pollution prevention.

Current Need

Keeping beaches free of pollution requires consistent action, community participation, and expanded operational capacity. The organization is focused on increasing volunteer engagement, strengthening its beach cleanup network, and expanding waste recovery efforts throughout the Nicoya Peninsula. Additional support will help increase material collection during the rainy season, add staff capacity to extend cleanup operations, and strengthen partnerships with local businesses that contribute to responsible waste collection and circular economy initiatives.

Growing Stronger Every Year
