About
Fundación Hagnauer, through Las Pumas Rescue Center and Sanctuary, is dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and protecting wildlife affected by human-related threats across Costa Rica. For more than four decades, the organization has provided specialized care to animals impacted by illegal captivity, electrocution, vehicle collisions, habitat loss, and other emergencies. Its work focuses on returning rehabilitated animals to their natural habitats whenever possible while providing lifelong care for those that cannot be released. Through conservation education and public engagement, Las Pumas also promotes greater understanding, respect, and protection of Costa Rica’s wildlife.

Current Need
Every year, hundreds of wild animals arrive at Las Pumas in need of specialized care and rehabilitation. Continued support helps provide veterinary treatment, nutrition, habitat maintenance, and release preparation for rescued wildlife while ensuring lifelong care for animals that cannot return to the wild. Current priorities also include expanding environmental education programs, improving sanctuary infrastructure through enclosure renovations, increasing volunteer participation, and strengthening the sponsorship program that helps sustain long-term conservation efforts.
