About
Fundación SOMOS de Costa Rica is a community foundation strengthening resilience across Costa Rica’s Brunca region. Founded in 2018 from an initiative launched in Bahía Ballena in 2017, SOMOS convenes public-private alliances, incubates local initiatives, and administers funds for community projects. Its work focuses on education, youth employability, community security, conservation, and sports, connecting donors and partners with locally driven solutions. Through accountable fund management and collaborative investment, the Foundation helps communities mobilize resources and turn shared priorities into sustainable action.

Community Security & Conservation

Current Need
Strengthening locally led solutions across the Brunca region requires sustainable funding and broader community participation. SOMOS aims to certify 150 youth through SELAL, complete one to two new school projects, increase girls’ participation in soccer by 50%, sustain community security initiatives, and launch a traveler philanthropy program benefiting Marino Ballena National Park. The Foundation also seeks to double its recurring donor base through tax-deductible donations, corporate partnerships, and greater visibility for its community campaigns.
Growing Stronger Every Year
We’re proud to participate in Amigos of Costa Rica’s Transparency Badge System, which evaluates organizations across three key areas: financial stewardship, governance, and community impact.
Organizations are recognized at four levels of growth: Seed, Sprout, Sapling, and Tree, helping donors better understand each organization’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement.
The badges displayed below reflect our current achievements and our ongoing commitment to strengthening our organization and maximizing our impact.
