About
Raising Coral Costa Rica is a nonprofit organization restoring coral reefs through a holistic approach that supports both marine ecosystems and the communities that depend on them. Since 2016, the organization has led coral restoration in Golfo Dulce and later expanded to Cahuita National Park on Costa Rica’s Caribbean coast. By combining scientific research, ecological monitoring, coral transplantation, and local capacity building, Raising Coral creates long-term restoration solutions while training community members to become active stewards of Costa Rica’s reefs.

Researches, restores, and monitors coral reefs through transplantation, ecological monitoring, and photogrammetry on both coasts.
Coral Gardener Program
Trains local community members in science-based techniques to restore, monitor, and protect coral reef ecosystems.
Current Need
Expanding coral restoration to new ecosystems is the next step for Raising Coral Costa Rica. The organization is beginning work at Isla del Caño, collecting baseline reef data to develop restoration strategies adapted to the island’s conditions. It is also strengthening collaboration with tourism operators on both coasts to advance a regenerative tourism model centered on coral reef restoration. Donations and long-term partnerships are essential to sustain local coral gardeners, scientific monitoring, and continued coral transplantation.
