THE CENTER FOR BIODIVERSITY RESTORATION

About
The Center for Biodiversity Restoration (CBR) is a Costa Rican nonprofit restoring biodiversity by reconnecting wildlife habitat with regenerative agriculture, environmental education, and sustainable livelihoods. Building on conservation work that began at Macao Sanctuary in 1990, CBR promotes La Ruta Conectividad, an initiative to create a continuous wildlife corridor between Carara and La Cangreja National Parks. Through habitat restoration, bioacoustic monitoring, education, and regenerative agroforestry, CBR demonstrates how biodiversity conservation can support both healthier ecosystems and local communities.

Programs
La Ruta Conectividad & Bioacoustics
Restores and reconnects wildlife habitat while engaging communities in long-term biodiversity monitoring across forests, farms, and schools.
K–14 Environmental Education
Connects students and schools with field science, biodiversity conservation, and pathways toward continued university participation.
Regenerative Agroforestry
Uses diversified crops such as cacao, coffee, açaí, and jackfruit to restore habitat while creating opportunities for sustainable local livelihoods.
Current Need
Building a connected landscape requires collaboration across conservation, education, science, and local enterprise. CBR seeks teachers, scientists, universities, volunteers, and entrepreneurs who can contribute expertise and resources to advance biodiversity monitoring, environmental education, regenerative agroforestry, and sustainable ecotourism. This support will help strengthen La Ruta Conectividad and demonstrate restoration approaches that can reconnect wildlife habitat while creating meaningful opportunities for surrounding communities.
Growing Stronger Every Year
We’re proud to participate in Amigos of Costa Rica’s Transparency Badge System, which evaluates organizations across three key areas: financial stewardship, governance, and community impact.
Organizations are recognized at four levels of growth: Seed, Sprout, Sapling, and Tree, helping donors better understand each organization’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement.
The badges displayed below reflect our current achievements and our ongoing commitment to strengthening our organization and maximizing our impact.
