About Us

Guiare is a Costa Rican nonprofit working to improve the quality of public education by supporting teachers and expanding access to books. The organization designs and delivers evidence-based professional development workshops focused on early literacy, language development, and foundational math skills for preschool and primary school teachers.

In parallel, Guiare installs and supports school libraries in underserved communities, ensuring that students and teachers have access to high-quality books and reading materials.

By investing in teachers—the most powerful lever for educational improvement—Guiare strengthens classroom practice and expands opportunities for thousands of children across Costa Rica.

Our Programs

Teacher Training in Early Literacy and Math

Guiare designs and delivers practical professional development workshops for preschool and primary school teachers in Costa Rica’s public education system. These trainings focus on early language development, reading and writing instruction, and foundational math skills. Teachers gain evidence-based strategies they can immediately apply in their classrooms, strengthening learning outcomes for students.

Bibliotecas Guiare (School Libraries Initiative)

Guiare installs and supports school libraries in underserved communities, creating welcoming and safe spaces where children can discover the joy of reading. Each library includes carefully selected books, teacher resources, and comfortable elements—such as cushions and inviting reading areas—that encourage students to spend time with books. By combining access to quality books with a warm and engaging environment, Bibliotecas Guiare helps cultivate a lasting culture of reading in schools.
