Founded in 2018, MareBlu is Costa Rica–based environmental foundation focused on minimize the impact of waste on landfills, oceans, islands, and coastal ecosystems. Our purpose is to protect the oceans through plastic recovery (schools and companies), beach cleanups, artificial reefs, and circular economy programs that create jobs in vulnerable coastal communities. We also lead activism and inspirational initiatives such as Action for the Oceans 2027 to inspire ocean protection worldwide.
If you would like to donate by wire transfer or donate stock, please email admin@amigosofcostarica.org to receive the indicated account information. We will also confirm which project you would like to support with your donation and how you would like to receive your receipt.

The MareBlu Ocean Alliance Program is a comprehensive initiative that connects businesses, communities, schools, and international volunteers in concrete actions to prevent, correct, and regenerate environmental impact in Costa Rica.
Through innovative conservation, circular economy solutions, environmental education, and community engagement, we transform waste into opportunities and create measurable impact on land and at sea.
1. Nationwide Beach, Islands & River Cleanups
"Ensuring the traceability, recovery, and responsible management of all collected waste."
We organize cleanup initiatives across Costa Rica under a Zero Waste to Landfill model, maximizing material recovery while preventing waste from reaching rivers, beaches, and marine ecosystems.
2. Artificial Reefs & Coral Gardening
"Restoring and creating marine ecosystems where life once disappeared."
We deploy artificial reef structures and develop coral gardening initiatives to accelerate marine ecosystem recovery, enhance biodiversity, and strengthen coastal resilience.
3. Zero Plastic to Landfill Program
"Reducing plastic leakage at the source through collection, recovery, education, and circular economy solutions."
Working with schools, companies, municipalities, and institutions, we promote responsible waste management systems that keep plastics within the circular economy and out of nature.
4. Guacalillo Environmental Education & Recovery Center
"Turning waste into opportunities."
Located at the mouth of the Tarcoles River, one of Costa Rica’s most critical waste interception points, this center combines environmental education, waste recovery, and community engagement to create local solutions with national impact.
5. International Volunteer Program
"Vacations with a purpose."
Volunteers from around the world actively participate in conservation projects, environmental education, and community initiatives while becoming ambassadors for ocean protection. To expand this program, we are launching fundraising campaigns to support the acquisition and renovation of a new volunteer and conservation camp facility.
6. Sea Turtle Conservation Program

We support the conservation of endangered sea turtles through nest protection, monitoring, community participation, and environmental education.
7. Employment Opportunities in Coastal Communities

8. Plastic Transformation Lab
