Change The world

Around Costa Rica, Amigos of Costa Rica Affiliate Organizations are hard at work helping those in their communities affected by COVID-19.

For Costa Rica, the situation escalated quickly with the airport closure on March 18th, 2020 which abruptly put a stop to tourism in the country. Many organizations are mobilizing to meet basic needs, including food and other essential household items, as many families lost their source of income with the closure of tourism-related businesses. Many nonprofits also rely on tourism-related income to perform their critical services.  Emergency fundraising efforts supporting both communities and for nonprofits can be found below.

This page will be updated frequently with community-led COVID-19 responses from around Costa Rica. Please email us if you’re interested in contributing to a community that you don’t see on this list. Amigos of Costa Rica is also supporting Affiliate Organizations by facilitating the sharing of best practices and connecting the community of actors engaged in leading the grassroots relief efforts around the country.  If you would like to learn more about this effort, please email
