CBDRAS started out as simply Costa Ballena Disaster Relief, during the aftermath of Tropical Storm Nate in 2017.

The overwhelming community support, and the immediate trust given to us by other local organizations, transformed Costa Ballena Disaster Relief from an informal, one-time relief-based effort, to a more robust and broad official foundation.  Now, Costa Ballena Disaster Relief and Support helps families in the regions stretching from Dominical south to the fincas in Palmar, and sometimes beyond.

The majority of the families and individuals who we serve currently face employment difficulties, however, we serve families who have tragic events such as house fires, abusive relationships, illnesses and family deaths, and many other unfortunate circumstances.  Due to our tropical climate and tropical storms, we often get calls for flooding as well, where we don’t only help with food and clothes but we have clean-up crews and more, to help the family through every step. If a family is in need of help on an ongoing basis, we will provide free classes of different sorts so we can help them help themselves.
