The Skene Foundation for Human Development through Arts and Culture is a Non-profit organization, born in 1990 as the independent theater group Teatro Skené and later evolving to the status of legal foundation in 2005.
Since its beginnings Skené has worked to make art and culture a part of every Costa Rican daily life. Skené also sports the banner of art committed to the integral development of the human person, getting their works involved with relevant subjects such as environmental education, human trafficking denounce, and domestic violence prevention, amongst many others.
Their involvement with ecological themes has made for them to be awarded a Public National Interest Proclamation by the Health Ministry of Costa Rica, Cultural Interest, by the Ministry of Culture and Youth and over 12 PROARTES awards.
Currently, during pandemic times, Skené has been struggling to keep their work ongoing, trying new ways to bring their relevant contents to as many groups and communities as possible, using the social media and other modern technologies.
As a response to the "new normality" dynamics, we're developing a Web Series project for the Environmental Education of young kids and their families. Puppets and Actors together will tell the story of Violeta, a curious and cheery little girl who has a charismatic imaginary friend, Tololo, who will use tales, songs and games to guide her in her self discovery trip. Together they will find Violeta's path to become a responsible inhabitant of our planet
