Our Mission

Osa Birds is a non-profit organization based in Costa Rica dedicated to the conservation of birds and their habitats in the Osa Conservation Area (ACOSA) through research, education and conservation.

Our Focal Areas

1) Applied Research:  We focus our field research on understanding the factors that limit bird populations that are endemic, threatened or of heightened conservation concern.  This includes year-round resident birds and Neotropical migratory birds.  We apply our research findings directly to conservation actions as a direct benefit to birds.

2) Education: We work with school children throughout the Osa Peninsula to raise awareness of bird ecology and behavior, bird identification, and life cycles, especially the life cycle of migratory birds.  We organize and celebrate the World Migratory Bird Day Festival not only for the birds but for the youth of the Osa to inspire the next generation of conservation leaders!

3) Conservation Initiatives: Osa Birds has become involved with local communities on the Osa Peninsula for the restoration of degraded and fragmented lands through the creation of native plant nurseries.  We are actively planting trees with the help and support of local biological monitoring groups and school kids!
